This article brings up some really interesting points. I think item number three is incredibly relevent in terms of "the desire to belong." One of the questions I always asked my parents growing up was, "Why can't I believe in God, and worship God in my own way? Why do I have to go to a certain building, at a certain time each week, for God to know what's in my heart?" And her response was always the same. Some type of message indicating that worshipping together makes you part of a larger community, with shared values, and shared beliefs. And being a part of that community will help you grow in your faith. To be honest, I haven't read the rest of the list. I stopped there as it actually did speak to me. I'll keep going but that's a comment I needed to get out before I forgot about it.
